On 7th February 2018 the General Legal Advice Clinic students took part in the Great Legal Bake event, raising funds for the South West Legal Support Trust (“SWLST”).
This was the second year that the clinic has participated in this excellent event, and it is now a firm fixture in the clinic event calendar. The concept of the event is that participants bake a range of delicious cakes to sell, making lots of money for the SWLST.
It appeared right from the start of planning that the main ( and very competitive) aim of this years students was to beat the total raised by last years students! With this in mind the students added an extra location for selling (Anglesea foyer) and set about baking some rather lovely cakes. There was a very definite international flavour, with students making cakes from their home countries;
( Ana’s Colombian cheese balls)
(Raysa’s Indonesian pandan)
Sales went very well in both Anglesea and the John Pounds Centre, with the rival groups taking on an apprentice style challenge, both competing for the highest fundraising totals. Mid afternoon a rival group sold all the cakes that were remaining across Richmond and Portland buildings, bringing back an impressive £70 after just an hours selling!
Once all the money was in and counted ( and supervisor Vicki had done her best Alan Sugar impression) …we revealed that the total raised was: £344.19
We were all delighted at this total, almost three times more than the £120 raised last year, making the clinic one of the top SWLST fundraisers!
(…Team Anglesea won by the way..no one got fired..for now!)
